Exploring the Challenges of Choosing an Email Marketing Tool in 2025: A Personal Reflection

In today’s digital age, email marketing remains a cornerstone of business communication and customer engagement. However, my recent experiences over a two-week period trying out various email tools have left me frustrated and questioning whether the ideal solution exists. Here, I share my honest review of eight popular platforms, highlighting the commonalities and disparities among them, and reflecting on the persistent challenges faced by users like myself.

Week 1: Initial Impressions

  • Mailchimp: Despite its widespread popularity, I found it prohibitively expensive and cluttered with unnecessary feature recommendations that don’t align with my needs.
  • SendGrid: Setting up was unexpectedly complex, requiring a level of technical expertise that slowed down my progress.
  • Brevo: Its outdated interface felt like a throwback to 2012, making navigation cumbersome and less intuitive.

Week 2: Deeper Dive

  • ConvertKit: Marketed as a platform for creators, yet it surprisingly lacked some basic functionalities I expected.
  • ActiveCampaign: Attempted to configure automation workflows but abandoned after 40 minutes of frustration.
  • MailerLite: Although straightforward initially, I quickly hit the contact limit, which hindered my testing.
  • Klaviyo: Their pricing demands felt excessive — akin to “paying with my firstborn,” as the saying goes.
  • HubSpot: I briefly experimented with it but ultimately closed the app and reverted to Gmail for simplicity.

What strikes me most is that, despite their varied interfaces and marketing promises, these tools fundamentally serve the same purpose: sending emails to contacts. Yet, each feels oddly disconnected from the others, emphasizing different features, pricing models, and user experiences.

The core challenge remains: I want a straightforward process — compose an email, send it to my audience, and do so without breaking the bank. Why does achieving this in 2025 seem so elusive?

Am I alone in this struggle? Navigating the landscape of email marketing tools can be daunting, and the fragmentation makes it difficult for users to find a reliable, cost-effective solution. I welcome thoughts, recommendations, or shared experiences from others facing similar frustrations.
